Counselor - Crime Victim Center of Erie County, Inc.


Provide crisis intervention, supportive counseling, information, referral and accompaniment to victims of crime and their significant others throughout Erie County. Part of ‘On-Call Crisis intervention’ phone service rotation. Travel throughout Erie County up to 60% of position.


1. Assess personal, social, medical and emotional issues of victims and significant others.
2. Develop and implement treatment plans that adhere to agency guidelines.
3. Provide crisis intervention, individual and group supportive counseling under supervision of the Director of Clinical Services.
4. Participate on interdisciplinary teams and in interagency coordination as needed to implement and develop treatment plan.
5. Provide court preparation and accompaniment as needed.
6. Assist in the referral process for those clients whose needs exceed agency clinical guidelines.
7. Review client progress on-going and formally every ninety days.
8. Maintain accurate, thorough and timely clinical documentation.
9. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, other agencies and general public.
10. Participate in conferences, in-services, training, seminars, team and staff meetings.
11. React productively to change and handle other tasks as assigned.
12. Other Duties as assigned

1. Flexibility in hours of work.
2. Able to drive and travel. Provide copy of valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
3. Act 33 and 34 Clearances and FBI fingerprint clearance.
4. Successful completion of minimum of seventy hours training in victimization issues.
5. Must share in on-call rotation evenings, weekends, holidays.

Master’s Degree from accredited college or university in human services field. (Social Work, Criminal Justice, Etc.)
Must possess LCSW, LPC or LSW licensure
TF-CBT Certified (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
Able to withstand emotional stress.
Flexible, able to tolerate many situations and personalities.
Able to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints.
Able to read and interpret professional books, journals, reports, documents.
Able to effectively present information one-to-one and to groups.
Able to write routine reports and correspondence in clear, concise fashion.
Able to create/develop programs for presentations to individuals and groups.
Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions and solve problems.
Able to organize personal area and prioritize tasks effectively.
Able to sit for extended periods of time.
Possess auditory acuity to listen to people over the telephone and in person.
Possess visual acuity to read correspondence, notes, reports.
Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds safely and easily.
